Enrollment for Summer Edge 2025 is open for students who have submitted their Statement of Intent to Register (SIR) at UC Merced.

The Summer Edge Program is open to all incoming first-year students!
Summer Edge program participants enroll in non-credit college preparatory math, chemistry, writing, and/or computer science classes in an online learning community format. This part-time, online, free, non-credit program prepares incoming UC Merced students for academic success at UC Merced. Spots for Summer Edge will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, and are limited to 500 students.
How to enroll in Summer Edge.
Step 1: Fill out this application, indicating you wish to enroll in Summer Edge and select which class(es) you wish to take. You may choose as many as you like from the four disciplines:
- College Mathematics Readiness (recommended for students who will complete pre-calculus or calculus as part of their major)
- College Writing Readiness (recommended for all students who wish to prepare for college-level writing)
- College Computer Science Readiness (recommended for all students who wish to prepare for college-level computer science)
- College Chemistry Readiness (recommended for all students who wish to prepare for college-level chemistry)
Step 2: Self-Register in CatCourses (UC Merced's online course management system)
- Within a week of submitting your enrollment request, you will receive an email with instructions for how to enroll with your UC Merced email.
- To access your UC Merced email, log into the Connect portal. If you're not sure how to use Connect, watch this video.
- When you enroll, you will select the subject(s) you want to take, choose a day and time for each subject(s) synchronous (live) Discussion Section.
Step 3: Check Your UC Merced Email Regularly
- Program information will be sent to you as part of a "Welcome" email the week of June 16, 2025.
- Check your UC Merced email regularly for program updates.
